Natural Seeds Bracelet from Peru, Yellow
Features & Benefits
To make this beautiful, unique Fair Trade bracelet, natural seeds, (which grow in abundance in the Amazon jungle and are traditionally believed to attract good fortune and ward off evil spirits) are strung onto memory wire by skilled women artisans, ensuring that these wrap around bracelets never loose their shape.
• These seeds are completely safe and non-toxic and referred to as either Taguita (little Tagua) or Coquito (small coconut) seeds which are from the Amazonian Palm Tree.
They have a brown husk which can be peeled to show their creamy-white interior and then coloured with textile dyes - in this case, a vibrant yellow.
• Easy-on, easy-off, so fit all sizes of wrist.
• The bracelet has at least 3 layers of seeds when looked at side-on.
This Fair Trade natural seed bracelet was handmade with great care in Lima, Peru.
Dimensions - each seed is approximately 1 cm wide.
Our importer has been recognised by the British Association for Fair Trade Shops and Suppliers (BAFTS) and is the exclusive partner with the Zoe Project in Peru, which was established in 2000. They guarantee a minimum order every month to ensure that the project is sustainable and the people involved have regular work.
The women who work for the Zoe Project live in two shanty towns on the outskirts of the capital, Lima - La Tablada and California. 23 ladies, including 2 project coordinators, make up the workforce.
Each new collection is designed collaboratively with the women, taking into consideration availability of materials and building on existing techniques.
They make the products in their own homes enabling them to earn a living wage without having to leave their children. They are paid to train others what they have learnt, so the project is enabling increasing numbers of Peru's poorest women and young people to have the opportunity of fairly paid employment.
This partnership gives the Zoe Project valuable business and design advice ensuring that their products will appeal to the western market.
The project produces several different ranges of jewellery - their collections include the popular natural seeds range, made from seeds and nuts sourced from the Amazon jungle.
